This is the home of our bookbinding guides, instructions and tuition.
Over time, I’ll be adding more useful bookbinding guides here – from complete step-by-step instructions, to smaller guides covering particular techniques, materials and the odd question that crops up again and again.
For now, I’m starting with the guide that accompanies my Complete Bookbinding Starter Kit.
Complete Bookbinding Starter Guide
My Starter Guide takes you through the process of making a proper, hardback case-bound book from start to finish.
It covers folding and preparing the pages, sewing the bookblock, making and covering the case, and finally bringing the two together to make the finished book.
The guide was written to accompany our Complete Bookbinding Starter Kit and refers to tools and materials contained with that particular kit, but you’re very welcome to use it whether you have one of our kits or not.
