Long Stitch Leather Journal / Sketchbook
February 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm£80
Long stitch is a very old method of bookbinding, thought to have originated in medieval Germany. It involved sewing signatures directly through a limp cover (usually leather) with ‘long stitches’ – as its name implies. There are countless variations of the long stitch technique and once you’re hooked you’ll want to experiment more with these stylish books. Long stitch bindings can be anything you want them to be from rustic to contemporary and look equally at home in the hands of Gandalf or Galliano.
In this workshop you will make one A5 journal or sketchbook with hand torn pages and a wraparound gorgeous leather cover using the rather handsome, link and long stitch method. The finished book is wrapped with a cord or thong closure.
All tools and materials are provided for the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. This workshop is not suitable for children, minimum age 13.
This Workshop will be held at my studio situated in Boutport Street in the centre of Barnstaple.
£80 per person
